Junior Secondary – Years 7 to 10

Years 7 to 10 are an important stage of transition as students move from primary into a more specialised secondary learning environment. Students are supported as they adjust to new subjects, teachers and expectations while continuing to develop their independence and sense of responsibility.

Students study a broad curriculum across the Australian Curriculum learning areas, with opportunities to develop their interests and strengths as they progress through Years 7 to 10. Learning increasingly encourages students to analyse information, evaluate ideas, solve problems, communicate effectively and apply their knowledge in different contexts.

As students move towards Years 9 and 10, they have greater opportunities to make choices about their learning and begin considering possible pathways for senior secondary study and beyond.

Senior Secondary – Years 11 and 12

Years 11 and 12 are an important stage for students to focus on their individual strengths, interests and future pathways. At AIS Dubai, students have the opportunity to choose from a diverse range of subjects across areas such as sciences, humanities, business, health and practical learning. This allows students to explore their interests in greater depth while building the knowledge and skills needed for their next step.

Through their chosen subjects, students develop deeper subject knowledge alongside critical thinking, research, problem-solving and independent learning skills. Students work towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) available for eligible students who meet the relevant requirements. These pathways support students with different goals, including university study, further education, training and employment.

Throughout Years 11 and 12, our teachers support students as they manage increasing academic responsibility, make informed decisions about their future and prepare for life beyond AIS Dubai.

Strong Relationships, Shared Support

In Junior Secondary, students are supported by a consistent team of core teachers across English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. Rather than relying on one teacher for all core learning, students work with a team who collaborate closely and share an understanding of their progress, strengths and individual needs.

This approach gives students the consistency and support they need while introducing them to different teachers, perspectives and ways of learning. It also allows our teachers to work together to support the academic, social and personal development of each student.

Specialist Subjects and Opportunities

Alongside the core curriculum, students have opportunities to explore a broad range of subjects and interests, including Design and Technologies, The Arts, Health and Physical Education, Music, Languages and other areas of study.

The Australian Curriculum provides students with opportunities to develop knowledge and skills across eight learning areas, while the choice and organisation of subjects can develop according to year level and school context.

Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to take part in leadership, activities, events and wider school opportunities. These experiences allow students to discover new interests, work with others and contribute to the AIS Dubai community.
